The results from the Gauteng RMB WineX show has recently been released. The results were quite interesting as it reflects the difference in tastes between those who attended the shows and elected to cast a vote for their favourite wines in the Cape and Gauteng.
We are very pleased that our Vrede en Lust Sauvignon Blanc 2008 made it to the top-10 white wines as voted by the attendees:

- Joint 1st: Hamilton Russell Chardonnay 2005 and Springfield Life from Stone Sauvignon Blanc 2008
- 3rd: Jordan Nine Yards Chardonnay 2007
The balance of the Top Ten in alphabetical order
- Cederberg Sauvignon Blanc 2008
- Forrester Meinert Chenin 2007
- Glen Carlou Chardonnay 2007
- Kanu Chenin Blanc 2007
- Mooiplaas Sauvignon Blanc 2007
- Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2008
- Vrede en Lust Sauvignon Blanc 2008
5 wines – including the our Sauvignon Blanc 08, the Hamilton Russell Chardonnay 05, the Jordan 9 Yards Chardonnay 07, the Springfield Life from Stone Sauvignon Blanc 08 and the Glen Carlou Chardonnay 07 were in the Top-10 in both the Cape and Gauteng lists. Also interesting to see 3 Chardonnays vs 2 Sauvignon Blancs in that list of 5 – clearly NOT a case of ABC – Anything But Chardonnay here!
We did not make the top-10 red wine list in Gauteng although we were very happy with the brisk sales of the Vrede en Lust Reserve 2004. My wife Anneke and her crack team did a great job in Gauteng and sold 500% more wine up there than in the Cape! The Sauvignon Blanc sold the most, followed by the Jess 2008 and the Reserve 2004. Our booth was very popular and busy and we plan to take a double stand next year.

The top-10 reds in Gauteng also had 5 wines make it in both shows, with 2 of them the coffee flavoured Pinotages style created by Bertus Fourie (now from Val de Vie). The other 2 in the common top-10 are well established wines in the De Toren Fusion V, Meerlust Rubicon. Lindhorst took 2nd place in both shows with their Statement 2005 – a great achievement for Mark and Belinda.
We were also happy to see our neigbours Rupert & Rothschild with 2 reds in the Gauteng top-10, a great achievement for Schalk-Willem Joubert and his team next door. Interesting to note that the Gauteng attendees seem to like Shiraz based wines more than the Cape attendees.
