The 2010/2011 Christmas season is now in full swing at Vrede en Lust. It has been a cool spring with a good lot of rain up until now. It looks like the rain move north just as the holiday makers arrived in the Cape!
This is the 3 busiest weeks of the year at the winery. Anneke and her team have decorated the winery accordingly and the Christmas spirits are running high!
We have been blessed with a very good 2010. We won trophies for our Boet Erasmus 2007 and Mocholate Malbec 2009 wines along with a number of other awards and accolades. Sales growth is currently running at greater than 50% over last year.
The team at Vrede en Lust has really come together and performed exceptionally well in a domestic wine market that grew only 1.8% and an export market that has shrunk due to the strong Rand. Thanks so much for all your support in 2010 and we look forward to delighting you in 2011!
We have just completed a process whereby we increased our winery capacity from a 500 ton crush to a 750 ton crush for the 2011 vintage. Susan focused on increasing our white grape crush capacity as the Elgin vineyards come into quality production. In addition to increasing crush capacity, we have also installed equipment to help further improve quality. The automatic grape berry sorting machine tested during the 2010 harvest is now installed, along with additional tanks in the maturation cellar that will reduce the distances that wines are pumped during the barrel maturation process.
At the cellardoor we have just unveiled 4 new ‘igloos’ on the outdoor plaza. These innovative outdoor furniture pieces allows for comfort and privacy whilst enjoying our wines and the beautiful views from the plaza.
As the Cotage settles its new menu rollout, we will start offering a short menu on the plaza as well, comprising cheese platters as well as some tappas.
Each igloo can seat parties of up to 8 guests in comfort and out of the sun. Our wines can be enjoyed by the glass or by the bottle on the plaza.
During the peak summer holiday it may be best to book at the popular Cotage Fromage country bistro & deli – especially for lunch. Please remember that our Wine-club members get a 20% discount for breakfast at the Cotage and 10% discount over lunch time. Remember to bring your memberships cards along!
The Cotage Fromage will be open from 8am till 5pm with the exception of Christmas day. The winery will be open from 10am till 5pm every day except for Christmas day and New Years’ Day.
