Bling in Spring

With winter looming longer than any Capetonian could have wished for, we are lifting the gloomy winter spirits with the announcement of some superb awards for our wines. We were privileged enough to have 2 wines selected for the prestigious 2013 Nederburg Auction. With 72 red wines and 36 white wines on auction the fact that two of our white wines – the Viognier 2011 and Barrique Semillon, Sauvignon blanc 2010 were selected, was a major highlight for us.

The Michelangelo International Wine awards are annually something to look forward to on our calendar and this year was no exception. On Friday the 6th of September the results were announced and the Vrede en Lust team was awarded with two Gold medals. Our 2012 Viognier and Artisan Range Kogelberg Chenin blanc 2012 will soon be shining with their new gold stickers. The 2012 Viognier is a blend from our Simonsberg-Paarl and our cooler climate Elgin grapes. The 2012 Kogelberg Chenin blanc will only be available later this year but the 2011 vintage is a very popular wine in the tasting room and we are predicting that it will soon be sold out. This vintage was also awarded with a gold medal at last year’s Michelangelo awards and acknowledged by Neil Pendock with 5 Hearts. This special wine is produced by our Single Vineyard Chenin Blanc grapes and is one of the only cool climate blocks of Chenin blanc planted in Elgin.

The FNB Top 10 Sauvignon blanc Competition is now in its 7th year and aims to identify the superstars of Sauvignons. The 207 entries were narrowed down to 37, and the top 20 finalists were announced this week.  Great was our joy and excitement when we were informed that our 2012 Casey’s Ridge Sauvignon blanc was included in the Top 20 – this is a great feat for us, being our third production of Sauvignon blanc from our own grapes in Elgin.  The top 10 will be announced on the 27th of September Last but most certainly not least is the announcement of the IWSC results.

The International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) is one of the most prestigious international Wine Competitions and the 2013 results were published yesterday.
