Jacques de Savoye, the original owner of Vrede en Lust, had to two daughters, Barbere and Marguerite, after whom the two beautiful thatched cottages on the Vrede en Lust estate are named. The cottages sleep four each, and lie beneath century-old oak trees with extraordinary views of the vineyards.

Or head to the pool house for a Jacuzzi or steam, or a workout in the gym. On the estate, you'll also find the manor house with its yellowwood floors and five metre-high ceilings. It sleeps 10, and comes with a butler included. What a luxury! The prize is for a two-night weekend stay in one of the gorgeous cottages in a bed and breakfast basis for four people sharing, subject to availability. Info: 021-874 1611, http://www.vnl.co.za.
