Our Wines

Vrede en Lust Wine Range

There is a great deal of care that goes into every bottle of Vrede en Lust wine starting from the soil.

The winery is IPW certified (www.ipw.co.za) and the farm has minimised any use of insecticides on the farm for the past 12 years.

Our winemaking philosophy is simple – to make wines of the highest quality, honest wines that reflect their terroir with minimal intervention in the cellar. We have 3 vineyards planted to cultivars most suited to the respective soils, slopes and climates. The core of our white grapes come from the cool climate Elgin region while the bulk of our red grapes are sourced from our warmer Simonsberg-Paarl vineyards.

Susan Wessels, our winemaker, takes tremendous pride in her range of handcrafted wines. Key goals in the winery include elegance and balance in all of our wines.

Our wines are clearly new world in style – some more classical and some with a modern twist – this lineup shows the diversity of our vineyards and the careful handling of the winemaking process – ensuring that the variety of palates of our customers are satisfied.

Our top award to date, has been for the Vrede en Lust Boet Erasmus 2007, which received a Gold Medal (at least 95 points) as well as the Trophy for the Best South African Red Wine, at the prestigious 2010 International Wine Challenge in London.

We invite you to be the judge and visit us for a free tasting in one of the most beautiful cellar door environments anywhere.
