The Mopani Tree Legend

There was once one green butterfly left on earth and the Great Spirit heard it crying. So it asked the butterfly why it was unhappy, to which the butterfly replied: "the Hornbill is going to eat me, and then there will be no more green butterflies on earth".

So the Great Spirit created green leaves looking just like the green butterfly to confuse the Hornbill.

The Mopani Trees for Life Foundation is Vrede en Lust's initiative to plant trees in the fight against Global Warming - the more Mopani Wine we sell, the more trees we plant! For every 120 bottles of Mopani wine we sell we plant one tree. We encourage the importers and distributors we work with to do the same!

We aim to plant the right tree in the right place, so please note that we do not just plant Mopani trees. And no, we do not make the wine from Mopani worms either!

Ownership
Mopani Wines is majority owned by Vrede en Lust, with Anthony Lane and the Mopani Trees for Life Foundation as smaller shareholders.

Credits
The beautiful packaging was designed by Anthony Lane, South Africa's leading wine label design studio. They believe in the Mopani cause and provided their excellent design services in exchange for a share in the Mopany Wine company.
