Cotage Fromage Country Bistro & Deli

Our vision is an authentic country bistro and deli experience, complementing the excellent Vrede en Lust wines with light, sophisticated and delicious cuisine. The emphasis is on healthy food made with the freshest ingredients.

A bakery and a deli stocked with local and specialty cheeses, olives and cured meats serves the restaurant and offer clients the chance to buy fresh country goods for their own kitchens. We proudly offer a growing range of organic deli products.

The Partners

Vrede en Lust partners with chef Duncan Doherty to offer an intriguing and fulfilling gastronomic experience.

The venue

The restaurant is a full-time venue catering for up to 120 diners. The new layout allows for private areas that may suit conferences or tour groups. Intimate evening functions for up to 70 guests at Cotage Fromage complement our Vineyard Terrace venue, which caters for larger events.

The restaurant was redesigned in keeping with the rustic, country feel of the original thatch and its historic roots. A new, wraparound, wind-protected veranda makes the most of the magnificent setting and views. The new fireplaces ensure the right atmosphere during our Cape winters.

The 120sqm kitchen has quadrupled capacity and is cleverly placed at the center of the restaurant giving efficient service to the adjacent deli as well. Parking has been provided for more than 100 vehicles.

Cotage Fromage is the ideal stop for breakfast or a leisurely lunch in the heart of the Winelands. Visitors can:

  • Taste and buy some of Vrede en Lust’s award-winning wines
  • Play a game of Petanque or Boules on the two competition sized courts
  • Go for a peaceful stroll among the vineyards
  • Take a more energetic bike ride up into the forests to take in the spectacular view of the Franschhoek Valley
  • Enjoy live entertainment on Sunday afternoons

Free Nanny Care

We now have qualified nannies who take care of your children at the secure play area with jungle gym and jumping castle! Parents can be at ease and enjoy their breakfast or lunch while their children are looked after with care.

Hours

The Cotage Fromage is open 7 days a week from 8am till 5pm from 1 September to 31 May.

Winter Trading Hours: From 4 June to 31 August the Cotage Fromage is open from Wednesday to Friday from 8am to 4pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
